The everyday observer's guide to feeling more put together

How to feel your best but with minimal effort and minimal spend

I sometimes find that I'm in need of a 'glow up' and I want to give myself a bit of a boost, not just physically, but mentally as well. A lot of the time, my mood depends on how I'm feeling, and this can be really frustrating. I wanted to give you a list of things I do when I'm not feeling my best, along with some realistic suggestions that can hopefully improve your mood or how you feel within yourself.
No. 1 Clean & Tidy (room and body)
Keeping clean and tidy doesn't just mean the space around you, but also your body. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant with expensive products or a really long bubble bath; it can be something as simple as a shower at the start of your day to wake you up and refresh you. Feeling clean is a big thing for me, especially in the morning, as it's right at the start of the day.
Clean clothing and a tidy getting-ready space really encourage motivation and a good mood. When my living space is organised and clean, it just makes me feel more relaxed and gives me one less thing to think about. I highly encourage you to take control of your surroundings, as this is something that has such an effect on your mood, even when you don't realise it.
Some of my favourite (affordable) products and accessories:

No. 2 Skincare and light makeup - even on slow days
Even on those days when I'm not planning on leaving the house, still doing my skincare routine or applying the most basic layer of makeup really helps me feel put together and still prepared for the day. This is one of those things that can be really quick and simple, but helps improve your mood instantly. Some of my favourite products are the ones that are effective but are also a good price - especially if they last a long time as well. At the moment, some of my favourite products are the Aveeno Oat Moisturiser, which is really good for sensitive skin. I'm also loving the Wonderskin Lip Stain as it lasts such a long time and creates the illusion that you're wearing more makeup than you actually are.

No. 3 Keeping up with self care
Keeping up with simple treatments and self care rituals is something that pays off on those off days when you want to feel put together but with minimal effort. When I say beauty treatments I don't mean go and spend all your money on expensive facials and waxing, but it's so easy to diy that kind of thing, and it will save you so much money. Also things like nails being either painted, or just clean and cut is something so simple, yet can make you feel put together even if the rest of you isn't.
This will keep you feeling put together when you're getting ready in a rush and don't have time to start fresh every morning.

No. 4 Building a reliable wardrobe
Finally, I would suggest building a collection of pieces in your wardrobe that you know you're going to feel comfortable and confident in most days of the week. This also includes buying items that fit you really well and make the everyday decision of deciding what to wear a little bit less painful.
One of my favourite things to do is keep some basic pieces in rotation such as black and white tops, including t-shirts, camis and long sleeves in the autumn and winter; and then use these in outfits with textured or colourful bottoms such as a skirt or jeans. Combining basic pieces with more interesting items allows you to mix and match and create an endless array of looks without even thinking.

Hopefully this list gives you some inspiration if you're feeling a little bit stuck and need that extra boost to make some really small and subtle changes that help you feel your best. Nothing in this list is extraordinary or magic, so it's not going to completely change your life, but even if you take one of these things and adjust something in the coming week then maybe you'll see a positive difference.
