An everyday perspective on style , identity and gay culture in london

London is very much a blank canvas for how you want to look and what you want to be. I arrived 3 years ago not so comfortable with how I looked and who I wanted to be. Something shifted in the way I saw myself, and I think that came from seeing others around me looking how they wanted to and not caring about it.

By quite literally coming out my shell and wearing what makes me happy, I feel more myself now than ever. Being gay is rather- shall we say- turbulent, but having London by your side gives you that extra spring in your step. Knowing I’m walking the same footsteps and dreaming in the same spots as many that have come before me, it gives me the confidence to know that I’m visible in this bustling metropolis.

London is the trend. It’s not about following the trend, you set your own trend. If you have the confidence and you feel comfortable, you can wear it! Whether its bright colours, cropped fits, quirky jewellery, heeled boots, or something completely extra, it’s quite simply acceptable. Nothing is off limits and it reminds you that you can execute any vision you want for yourself.

I love to serve a look. You wouldn’t see me dead in sweats and it’s always a good day if I’m turning heads. You want to smell good, so good that people remember you. A bright and striking energy carries you through, and a bold pair of shoes are essential, as the first thing people look at are the shoes!

London’s diverse districts also give you the opportunity to dress for the occasion. Suits in Mayfair, baggy trousers in Hackney, Prada in Kensington, bright colours in Notting Hill. A London image is a feast for the eyes and walking the streets is truly the way to go shopping.

The London gays can be vicious, but who doesn’t love a little competition? The most important thing I’ve learnt being in London is you are what you make of yourself and that can be anything you want!

So, I’m writing as someone who loves making my own trends and not giving one about how it might be too much. Too much never exists... you are the trend!
